Itzy Ritzy natural rubber pacifier in pink, front and back views

Itzy Ritzy Sweetie Soother (Natural Rubber)

Not recommended

The affordable, widely-stocked take on the round-nipple pacifier - a German natural-rubber nipple mounted in a BPA-free plastic shield, so it's not the one-piece plastic-free option it can look like.

We don't recommend this one

The nipple is natural rubber but the shield is plastic against the baby's face - a one-piece all-rubber pacifier (Natursutten, HEVEA) removes the plastic entirely.

The verdict: No-contact plastic

The natural-rubber Sweetie Soother uses a natural-rubber nipple (made in Germany) set into a hard shield and handle that are BPA-free plastic. So the part in the baby's mouth is rubber, but the shield pressed against the face for hours is plastic - the same shield-and-nipple construction as most mainstream pacifiers, just cheaper and more available. The plastic doesn't sit in the mouth, so it's no-contact-plastic, but it isn't the fully plastic-free one-piece pacifier the natural-rubber nipple can imply. Itzy Ritzy also sells a 100% silicone version (silicone-only). Documented as the popular budget dupe for the pricier round-nipple pacifiers.

Itzy Ritzy's affordable, mass-retail take on the popular round-nipple pacifier. The Sweetie Soother comes with a German natural-rubber nipple set into a contoured shield and handle, in the widely-stocked colors and prints the brand is known for. Itzy Ritzy also sells a 100% food-grade silicone version. Sold at mass retail, so it's easy to find in a hurry.

Pros

  • Natural-rubber nipple (the part in the mouth) rather than silicone
  • Inexpensive and widely available at mass retail
  • BPA- and PVC-free

Cons

  • The "natural rubber" nipple can imply the whole thing is plastic-free when the shield is plastic
  • Natural-rubber nipple carries a latex-allergy risk
