Best Plastic-Free Coffee Gear

Everything on the counter between beans and cup - grinders, kettles, and every brewing method. Grouped together because a plastic-free coffee setup is only as strong as its weakest piece: the grinder chamber, the kettle's water path, and the brewer all touch your coffee. Pick a piece below, or see our cross-method top picks.

Why plastic matters here

Coffee is close to the worst case for plastic exposure: near-boiling water in prolonged contact with plastic, every single day - and it happens at more than one step. The brewer gets the attention, but many electric kettles boil water inside a plastic reservoir, and most grinders drop beans through a plastic chamber and chute. Difficulty varies enormously: manual brewers (pour-over, french press, percolator, moka) and hand grinders can be fully plastic-free, while automatic machines run hot water through internal plastic tanks and tubing you can't see. That's why this is broken out by piece and by type.
