Kid Classic with Sport Cap

Minimal plastic contact

Steel Kid Classic body, but the Sport Cap 3.0 kids drink through is polypropylene plus a silicone spout - so water does touch plastic at the cap.

Plastic-free verdict: Minimal plastic contact

The Kid Classic bottle body is 18/8 stainless steel, but the Sport Cap 3.0 it ships with is BPA-free polypropylene (#5) with a removable soft silicone spout. The child sips from the silicone spout, but the water travels through and sits against the polypropylene cap body and valve, so plastic is in the water path. It is meaningfully less plastic than an all-plastic kids bottle (steel body, tiny plastic cap), but it is not silicone-only. Swap the Sport Cap for the all-steel Loop Cap and it becomes plastic-free (see the Classic Steel Loop Cap entry) - at the cost of the spill-resistant spout.

Klean Kanteen's kids single-wall steel bottle with the Sport Cap 3.0, a flip-up silicone spout on a polypropylene cap, aimed at kids 3+. The steel body is the plastic-free part; the drink-through mechanism is not. It is a reasonable, durable steel option, but parents who want zero plastic in the water path should pair the Kid Classic body with the all-steel Loop Cap (no spout) or use the steel-straw Kid's Cup lid instead.

Pros

  • Durable 18/8 steel body, recycled steel, replaceable spout
  • Spill-resistant flip spout is practical for younger kids
  • Cap is interchangeable with Klean Kanteen's all-steel caps for a plastic-free upgrade

Cons

  • Water contacts polypropylene in the cap - not plastic-free or silicone-only as shipped
  • Silicone spout needs periodic replacement
  • Single-wall (non-insulated)
