Ahimsa
Ahimsa is a plastic-free brand by design: everything is recycled 304 (18/8) stainless steel, with no plastic, silicone, melamine, or paint. The colored plates get their color from a titanium-nitride PVD finish - the same vapor-deposited coating used on medical implants - bonded to the steel rather than a paint or plastic coating that could chip. Free of BPA, PVC, phthalates, lead, and formaldehyde. As close to a no-caveats plastic-free kids' plate as the category offers; the only trade-off is that steel can't microwave.
How clear are their specs?
Publishes full material details - recycled 304 18/8 stainless, titanium-nitride PVD color (named, not just "non-toxic"), and a free-of list covering bisphenols, PVC, phthalates, lead, siloxanes, melamine, and formaldehyde.
Lead testing disclosure
Doesn't publish its own lab reports, but became a named affiliate partner of independent tester Lead Safe Mama after XRF testing of its Classic, Iridescent-Blue, and Rainbow PVD dish sets came back non-detect for lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, and antimony - and now promotes that partnership (with a reader discount code) rather than distancing from it. A brand actively pointing customers at independent test results is a stronger signal than a self-issued safety claim.
